Memorial Record History

Memorial spaces are important for recording the history. In an article “The Spontaneous Formation of Memorial Space.” The Case of Kikar Rabin, Tel Aviv,” author Azaryahu Maoz said “Spontaneously constructed memorials figure in the geography of contemporary popular culture as an authentic articulation of public sentiments.” There are lots of memorial spaces in the world, such as the Metropolitan Museum and Chairman Mao memorial hall. Every year lots of tourists come to these places to visit. They not only bring large amount of revenues for a country, but it also tells people the history and culture of a country. This is import become record history.

There are two important reasons that memorial spaces are important for remembering significant moments. For the first, memorial keeps some materials, which are used in significant moments. It can be illustrated through War Memorials. Lots of War Memorial spaces collect guns or other weapons used in the war. Although the wars are historical events, the materials used in the war can recall the memory of the people fighting in the war. Author Kim, Suk-Young, in his article named “Staging the Cartography of Paradox: The DMZ Special Exhibition at the Korean War Memorial, Seoul” said “The Korean Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) may be a small strip of land, but it is one of the most dramatic spaces on earth, simultaneously standing for the devastating traumas of war and an activist movement for peace and environmentalism.” When people see the guns or knives, they see the repeat of history. It is so lively, it gives people unlimited space to imagine the memory. You can see from these images, the site is so raw and almost archaeological, because by seeing all the materials you can get a real feel from them about the bloody fight scenes. Author Jake Barton in his TED talk, “The Museum of You," identifies that memorial spaces are important for remembering significant moments. For another thing, in memorial spaces, it records the process of significant moments. It can be illustrated through museums. In most museums, there are collections of lots of historical relics. Beside the historical relics, it attaches the written history of the relics. The written introduction explains why the relics have significance in marking the events. It also indicates the value of the relics. The introduction can make people know the origin of the relics and some historical events. It is important in recording the large historical events. Therefore, it is important for remembering significant moments.
